Sweeney coyly responds to Bond 26 rumors

“I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.”

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.

It’s the kind of comment that instantly alienates the average James Bond fan for a potential Sydney Sweeney Bond girl role.  Rather than endearing herself to the franchise’s passionate base, Sydney Sweeney dismisses the legacy and nuance of the James Bond franchise, even if it was meant in jest.  A more strategic response would have been to express admiration for the series, its iconic Bond women, and the opportunity to bring something fresh to the role.

Perhaps she’s wary of being typecast once again in a glamorized, damsel-in-distress archetype, a familiar trope looking back on some of her recent roles.  If that’s the case, then the comment reads less as playful banter and more as a subtle deflection that she’d rather steer clear of the Bond universe altogether.
