In Diamonds Are Forever, we see a rare instance where Bond plays dumb to take advantage.  His (humorous) broken English to Peter Franks as they take the elevator together is meant to make him seem harmless.  This plays perfectly into Bond’s plan to assume Franks’ identity!  That’s a neat trick!
